“Aslan is a lion – the Lion, the great Lion.” “Ooh” said Susan. “I’d thought he was a man. Is he – quite safe? I shall feel rather nervous about meeting a lion”….”Safe?” said Mr. Beaver….”Who said anything about safe? ‘Course he isn’t safe. But he’s good. He’s the King, I tell you.”― The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
One of the best lines ever! If you aren’t familiar with C.S. Lewis, specifically, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, you need to stop reading this blog and go. Now. It doesn’t matter your age. This classic book-turned-movie is a must-see.
As I’ve continued to consider current events and the often-overwhelmed lives of those around me, I found myself thinking about this story. As adults, we’re often guilty of worry, anxiety, restlessness, etc. The world we live in can seem like a scary place. But just like the Pevensie children, we can find The One who will make all things right. The One who sacrificed so that all is restored to the way He intended.
Good seems evil. Darkness seems light. Right seems wrong. Up feels down. The White Witch surely is good. Isn’t she? Aslan must be scary, don’t you think? As I ponder wars and rumors of wars, I long for those around me to know Jesus and the peace He brings. To rest in the assurance that although He might not be “safe”, He’s definitely GOOD.
“The first action to be taken is to pull ourselves together. If we are going to be destroyed by an atomic bomb, let that bomb, when it comes, find us doing sensible and human things – praying, working, teaching, reading, listening to music, bathing the children, playing tennis, chatting to our friends over a pint and a game of darts – not huddled together like frightened sheep and thinking about bombs.” ~ C.S. Lewis
