This cross hangs from my husband’s rearview mirror. I have one in my truck as well. But does it mean anything?
Many in our world are quick to want to help someone or fix a problem. We start a food pantry or a shelter for the homeless. We donate to good causes. We go on mission trips. And we definitely need people to do those things. But there’s something those people often lack that goes beyond their tangible needs.
For several years now, “the Church has confused the mission with the method”. (Those are Pastor Greg’s words.) We’ve gotten so busy with doing good works that we’ve missed telling them about Jesus. Giving someone food if they’re hungry is important. But making sure they know Jesus is more important in the end. Volunteering in a shelter is important. But making sure they know Jesus is even more important; tell them about Jesus.
I heard a gentleman the other day say to someone, “Wow! I didn’t know you were a Christian”. These two people have worked together for several years. How did he not know? Why do we hang crosses on our rearview mirrors or around our necks if we don’t profess the Jesus that died on that cross?
You know this is actually one of Satan’s favorite tactics, right? From the beginning of time, he’s been trying to convince us that we need to be “doing” something. We need to be earning our salvation by doing “all the things”. But per usual, that’s nothing but lies. It’s all about Jesus. Only Jesus. They just need Jesus.
So let’s GO! Let’s be on a mission. Let’s be intentional. Let’s tell them about the cross, which means we’re telling them about Jesus.
Romans 10:14-15 ~ How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent?
